Android TV and Google TV sticks

A Xiaomi TV Stick 4K, Chromecast with Google TV, Kogan, Blaupunkt, onn and similar: set up for Dislab, or by you in its settings.

Dislab runs on any Android TV or Google TV stick with Android 7.1 or later. There are two ways to set one up.

Set up for Dislab (ready to plug in)

We set the stick up before it reaches you: it starts straight into Dislab, the remote can’t leave it by accident, and it never sleeps by itself.

  1. Plug the stick into the TV’s HDMI port and its power adapter into a wall socket. It opens Dislab by itself.
  2. To join your Wi-Fi, press any button on the remote and choose Network settings. Pick your network, type the password, then press Back to return to Dislab.
  3. Pair it with the code it shows (see Pairing a TV).
  4. For TV on and off from the console, switch on HDMI-CEC in the TV’s own settings (Samsung calls it Anynet+, Sony Bravia Sync, LG SimpLink).

Its screen page then has a Stick set up for Dislab card with Turn the TV off and Turn the TV on (the stick sleeps and wakes; with HDMI-CEC on, most TVs follow), Restart Dislab, Restart the stick and Release this stick, which makes it an ordinary stick again. After hours, Turn the TV off works on it too.

On a stick you set up yourself

  1. Set the stick up as its maker says and join your Wi-Fi.
  2. Install Dislab. It’s coming to Google Play; until then, email support@dislab.app and we’ll send it.
  3. Settings › Apps › Special app access › Display over other apps › Dislab › on, so it opens when the TV turns on. (Dislab’s menu has Open Dislab at power-up, which opens this setting for you.)
  4. Settings › Apps › Special app access › Energy optimisation (where listed) › Dislab › off.
  5. Settings › Device Preferences › Screen saver › Never (where listed).
  6. On Google TV: Settings › System › Power & Energy › Shut-Off Timer › When inactive › Never.
  7. Open Dislab and pair it with the code it shows.

A stick you set up yourself plays the same as any other, but the remote can leave Dislab and there are no TV on and off or restart buttons in the console.
